Lehigh Acres man, 58, killed in Hendry crash after teen fails to yield, FHP says

A 58-year-old man is dead after the dump truck he was driving crashed with an SUV in Hendry County.

The crash happened 7:05 a.m. Thursday along Palm Beach Boulevard, near Birchwood Parkway, in Port LaBelle, according to a Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

Troopers said the SUV, driven by an 18-year-old LaBelle man, was traveling north on Birchwood Parkway, at the intersection with Palm Beach Boulevard, while the dump truck was traveling west on Palm Beach Boulevard, on the outside westbound lane.

Authorities said the SUV failed to yield for approaching traffic from the stop sign, and traveled into the direct path of the dump truck.

The front right portion of the dump truck collided with the right side of the SUV.

After they collided, troopers said, the dump truck continued traveling west, rotated and overturned onto the north grass shoulder.

The Lehigh Acres man who was driving the dump truck died on scene. Troopers noted he wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

He's one of four fatalities stemming from Hendry County crashes this year.
