One of Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds’ priorities was passed by the State House.

The bill is a redesign of Iowa’s Area Education Agencies (AEA) and only allows districts to receive special education services from those agencies. The bill also slows the implementation of the proposed changes and creates an AEA task force that will report to lawmakers before next year’s session over the course of a month-and-a-half.

There were several subcommittee meetings and a public hearing on the proposal. House Democrats maintain the changes aren’t necessary and worry kids will be hurt in the process.
Governor Reynolds released a statement after the bill passed, saying she looks forward to more conversations as the legislation moves forward.
