HARBOR SPRINGS — People can get ready to "Bend and Snap" up their tickets for Harbor Springs High School's production of "Legally Blonde Jr."

Following Elle Woods and her way to and through Harvard Law School, "Legally Blonde Jr." is a family-friendly musical adaptation of the 2001 movie "Legally Blonde." The play was adapted with young performers in mind.

Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 15 and 16 and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17, all at the Harbor Springs Performing Arts Center.

"It's just super fun, super upbeat and a story that a lot of people know told in a new medium," director Kendra Shaw said.

Shaw said the show allows for further development of different characters, like manicurist Paulette, and focuses more on the idea of chasing dreams and aspirations rather than following a man to college.

The musical was chosen to help account for the female-heavy cast the school currently has, Shaw said. There are 34 students involved in the production.

Students auditioned right before winter break and started rehearsals in early January.

"At the end of the day it's storytelling, and the students that we have on stage are great storytellers — and I think it's exciting to give them the opportunity to do that for a big audience," Shaw said. "Especially the students working behind the scenes with lights and sound — they have all of these awesome technological talents that they don't necessarily get to share and other ways. It's a cool spot to see the talents and skills and passions that we don't get to see in the classroom every day."

Shaw is joined by co-director and choreographer Hannah Bianchi and music director Giovanni DeAgostino.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors. They are available at Between the Covers in Harbor Springs and will also be available at the box office an hour before each performance.
