‘Legally Blonde,’ ‘Jersey Boys’ among Short North Stage 2024-25 lineup

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — “The Rocky Horror Show” is returning to the Short North Stage this year, along with contemporary hit “Legally Blonde” and jukebox musical “Jersey Boys,” as part of the professional theater company’s 2024-25 season lineup.

The upcoming season spans seven productions being brought to life inside the company’s Garden Theater at 1187 N. High St. in the Short North. Kicking off this July, the season runs through June of next year.

Past Short North Stage subscribers are able to renew their packages for the 2024-25 season starting on Thursday through April 26. Packages for new subscribers will be available starting on May 6, while flex subscriptions and single tickets for each show can be purchased starting on June 4.

‘Legally Blonde’ | July 11 through Aug. 11

Based on the 2001 film, “Legally Blonde” kicks off the 2024-25 season with a month-long run. The Broadway musical was nominated for seven Tony awards and follows sorority girl Elle Woods who attempts to win back her ex-boyfriend by enrolling in Harvard Law School.

‘Ain’t Misbehavin” | Sept. 5 to 22

The musical revue is a tribute to music of jazz pianist and organist Fats Waller, and other Black musicians of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s and ’30s. Named after Waller’s song of the same name, the musical’s 1979 Broadway production won the Tony award for best musical.

‘The Rocky Horror Show’ | Oct. 4 through Nov. 3

Continuing a seven-year tradition, “Rocky Horror” is returning this Halloween for more than a month. The production based on the 1975 musical follows sweethearts Brad and Janet who are stuck with a flat tire during a storm when they discover the mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

‘Jersey Boys’ | Nov. 21 through Dec. 29

The jukebox musical presented in a documentary-style format details the formation, success and breakup of the 1960s rock ‘n’ roll group The Four Seasons. Show-goers can expect favorite songs like “Sherry,” “Who Loves You” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.”

‘Nine’ | Jan. 23 through Feb. 16

Originally slated for the company’s 2023-24 lineup, “Nine” has been rescheduled for this season and will run in early 2025. The musical drama is based on Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini’s semi-autobiographical film, “8 1⁄2.”

‘A Chorus Line’ | March 20 through April 19

The Pulitzer-prize-winning musical is returning to the Garden Theater after the company’s 2015 production. “A Chorus Line” follows 17 dancers auditioning for a place in a new musical’s eight-person chorus.

‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ | May 8 through June 1

A die-hard theatre fan plays his favorite cast album and the characters come to life in this musical comedy. The Broadway production won several Tony awards in 2006, including best book and original music score.

Before the 2024-25 lineup begins, “The Prom” and “Hair” are closing out the company’s current season. “The Prom” begins on Thursday and runs through April 14 following its Broadway debut in 2018 and a recent Netflix adaptation starring Meryl Streep. The musical features four Broadway stars who visit an Indiana town to help two queer high students build the prom of their dreams.

“Hair,” the iconic rock Broadway musical featuring hit like “Aquarius,” “Let the Sunshine In,” and “Good Morning, Starshine,” runs from May 9 through June 8. Purchase tickets and learn more about subscription packages on shortnorthstage.org.
