Lee Ryan fears Roxanne Pallett is suffering 'paranoid delusions' and could harm herself
Lee Ryan has come to the defence of actress Roxanne Pallett, following her departure from Celebrity Big Brother, saying that she could be suffering from ‘paranoid delusions’.
Ryan, who’s soon to appear on Strictly Come Dancing, took to Instagram to ask people to stop ‘ripping her apart’.
Pallett quit Celebrity Big Brother last Friday, after she’d accused fellow housemate Ryan Thomas of assaulting her during what was clearly shown as a brief playfight.
In a tearful exchange with showmakers, Pallett called Thomas a ‘woman beater’ and said that she didn’t feel safe in the house, however, viewers and other housemates overwhelmingly sided with Thomas.
More than 11,000 viewers later complained to TV watchdog OfCom about the incident.
“Not saying what she did was right at all…but nor is kicking the s**t out of someone who is troubled and clearly needs professional help,” said Ryan, who was commented on remarks made by former Big Brother star Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace on Instagram.
“It’s awful and I’ve had it done to me in a similar way. But it’s still not OK for people to go at her like this.
“What if she kills herself through the onslaught? Is that OK? It’s not, she’s not well.”
He went on: “In a world where we try and make mental illness aware and understood – everyone sure is getting there rotten fruit out.
“Yes it’s so horrible what she did but at the same time she clearly has some mental issues there are deep set in her. No one is that nasty and vindictive without some kind of mental health issue.
“I’m not sticking up for her at all but people seem to choose support mental health but when seen the truth and ugliness of what real mental health is and it’s direct result they get there rotten fruit at the ready. The girl clearly has some mental health issues. She don’t need to be pinned to a post for you all to enjoy.”
After apologising for the accusation on Jeremy Vine’s Channel 5 show, she has now quit her morning radio show in Minster FM.
Meanwhile, she’s also stepped down from a role in a forthcoming pantomime in Chesterfield, and the makers of Emmerdale, which she quit in 2008, have denied rumours that she was set to return to the show.
A spokesperson for the show said: “There are no plans, nor have there been, to bring back the character of Jo Sugden.”
Calling herself ‘the most hated girl in Britain’, she also apologised during an interview with Celebrity Big Brother host Emma Willis.
“I feel devastated. It cripples me with embarrassment and shame that I could’ve put someone in that position – seeing Ryan in the diary room distressed,” she said.
