Canterbury School senior on her way to Harvard takes Lee County Student of the Week honors

And the winner is ... Michaela Fischer of the Canterbury School.

This is the final Lee County High School Student of the Week for the 2023-24 school year. Look for the return of the Student of the Week in early September.

Here is what Michaela's nomination said:

Canterbury School - Michaela Fischer

Harvard will be gaining a true gem when Canterbury Senior Michaela Fischer joins their freshman class next year! A Canterbury "lifer," Michaela has consistently emerged as a leader and model student at Canterbury.

Michaela was elected Student Body President by her peers this year, and she planned and executed weekly Assemblies for the Upper School student body, and helped to plan events like Prom, Homecoming, and Field Day. She co-founded the Veterans Service Club, an active student club dedicated to recognizing and serving US veterans and their families. Michaela also served as the Secretary General of our award-winning Model United Nations chapter, competing at events all over the country. She is a Gold Award Girl Scout, a member of multiple Honor Societies, our Varsity Cheerleading team, HOSA, Chinese Club (did I mention that she is fluent in Chinese?), the Science Olympiad team, and the Mock Trial team, winning Best Defense Attorney at this year's Lee County Mock Trial Competition.

Somehow, in between all of these incredible leadership activities, she has been able to maintain all As throughout high school. This year she has earned an A in AP Chinese, AP Literature, AP European History, and AP Macroeconomics, as well as Linear Algebra and Multivariable Calculus. Prior to senior year, she had already earned scores of either 4 or 5 on 11 AP exams. And of course, we can't forget that she is a National Merit Scholarship winner!

What might surprise you the most, however, is that Micaela is one of the most humble and kind individuals you could meet. She truly finds joy in learning, and she has a genuine love of helping others. Her history teacher remarked, "All that I can say is that I have been teaching for 22 years, and Michaela is the most impressive student with whom I have ever worked. She has it all: intellectual brilliance, tact, refined manners, charisma, and humility." We are so proud to soon call Michaela a Canterbury alumnus!
