Ledyard motorcycle crash leaves two in critical condition

May 30—LEDYARD — A motorcyclist and his passenger were listed in critical condition after a crash into a large boulder Monday night, police said Tuesday morning in a news release.

Officers received a report of a motorcycle crash on Route 214 near Avery Hill Road around 11 p.m. Monday, according to the Ledyard Police Department. The initial investigation indicated the driver lost control while trying to navigate a sharp curve.

Police said the motorcycle slid off the road and hit a large boulder, ejecting both people from the motorcycle.

Driver Zachary Brule, 25, of Putnam, was taken by ambulance to Backus Hospital and then airlifted by Life Star helicopter to Hartford Hospital, police said. Life Star also flew the passenger, 42-year-old Melissa Stout of Ledyard, from the scene to Hartford Hospital.

Police ask anyone with information about the crash to contact Sgt. Jason Pudvah at (860) 464-6400.

The Stonington and Groton Town police departments assisted Leydard police in its investigation, and the Ledyard Fire Department, Gales Ferry Fire Department and American Ambulance also responded.
