AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — It was a time of mourning for Outback Steakhouse fans this week, when the popular restaurant chain announced the closing of its Akron location on Montrose West Avenue.
The restaurant was not only a gathering space for many a local family hankering for a bloomin’ onion, but it also was the locale of LeBron and Savannah James’ first date back when they were mere teenagers.

The world famous couple, who of course also happen to hail from Akron, took to Instagram to express their condolences.
“Nooooo,” Savannah wrote in her stories. “Our first date memories.”
The star basketball player also shared his wife’s story, writing “Why why why,” along with a smattering of teary-eyed emojis.
The pair, now 39 and 37 years old respectively, tied the knot in 2013 and have three kids together.
The Outback location was not the only one on the chopping block this week, with parent company Bloomin’ Brands, which also owns places like Bonefish Grill and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, announcing it would close about 40 restaurants total in its portfolio.

“Closing a restaurant is never easy. This was a business decision that is not a reflection of the management or staff,” a company representative told FOX 8 in a statement “We appreciate the community’s support over the past 30 years and hope to see you at our Macedonia or Cuyahoga Falls locations.”
