New Lebanon surgery center brings more options to Wilson County

Mar. 30—TriStar Summit Surgery Center celebrated its opening in Lebanon on Thursday, officially expanding the services TriStar Health provides in Wilson County.

"Options are important and that's what TriStar Summit also adds to Wilson County," Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto said.

The $21 million project took the shape of a 15,000-square-foot facility at 125 Willard Hagan Drive in Lebanon.

"That will allow us to care for patients who are receiving outpatient surgical procedures in two surgical suites and one procedure room," TriStar Summit Medical Center CEO Daphne David said.

David said that there's opportunities for growth in the future.

"We are very pleased to open this center and we believe that excellent surgical care can be provided not only in our main facility in Hermitage, but also here, closer to the home of so many of our patients," David said. "This will allow them to recover at home and continue to get that excellent care that we've been providing for so long."

TriStar Summit Medical Center sees a significant number of patients from Wilson County, and the freestanding emergency room in Mt. Juliet saw 21,000 patients last year.

"This location specializes in same-day surgical procedures," David said. "Again, this will allow patients to be closer to home and then recover at home just hours after their procedure. They're doing that now a little bit farther from this community, but again, this gives them minutes back and more family member opportunities to join them. We'll offer the highest quality outpatient surgical care by professionally trained staff and excellent surgeons."

The new surgery center is by the Hartmann Drive Overlay, which Lebanon Mayor Rick Bell said was designated to be an attractive entrance into Lebanon.

"It's an area that's growing," Bell said. "Just over the interstate they're beginning construction on the Dell Webb community. Right next to it is the Empower Me Day Camp campus, which is a nonprofit for special needs young people."

Bell said that this surgery center will also help increase the quality of life for residents.

"Quality of life means a lot of things, but one of the things that means is quality of health care," Bell said. "Our citizens, for them, there's never enough health care options."

TriStar Summit Health Chairman of the Board Dr. Chad Kurzynske learned early that patients prefer to get their care locally, rather than commute into Nashville.

"We would like to get our care here," Kurzynske said. "We'd like to get our care, excellent care provided in our community and it's such a blessing to be able to have this option expanding the services (in Wilson County)."
