At least 28 lives lost in Tysa River during escape attempts from Ukraine – State Border Guard Service

Since the outbreak of Russia's full-scale invasion, 28 deaths have been recorded in the Tysa River among people who tried to illegally cross the border of Ukraine, State Border Guard Service's Andriy Demchenko said on national television on May 10.

The Tysa has a rapid current and a dangerous bottom, so men trying to flee the country often lack the strength to cross it.
Since the beginning of the war, 35 bodies of people who tried to illegally flee Ukraine have been found near the border. The State Border Guard Service is maximizing control at the border, using video surveillance, drones and increasing the number of border posts, Demchenko said.

State Border Guard Service officers found three drowned people in the Tisa River on May 7. One of the dead was only 20 years old.
