Learn how to save a life at Operation Save program in Hammondsport
HAMMONDSPORT, N.Y. (WETM) – A suicide prevention program will be taking place tomorrow in Hammondsport to help attendees learn how to assist veterans who are going through a mental health crisis.
The Operation Save program will take place on Tuesday, March 5, at 5:30 p.m. at the Fred & Harriett Taylor Memorial Library on 21 William Street in Hammondsport.
Watkins Glen road racing exhibit comes to Montour Falls
The program is presented by Mary Pleaks, VA Community Engagement and Partnerships Coordinator, as a part of the Steuben County Suicide Prevention Coalition.
Attendees of the program will be given a veteran suicide data overview and learn the signs of a mental health crisis, as well as learn how to use the SAVE model to respond to someone in crisis.
According to the Suicide Prevention Resource Center, the SAVE model is made up of the following components:
Signs of suicide
Asking about suicide
Validating feelings
Encouraging help and expediting treatment
