Lean on me: Bella Hadid lends sister Gigi a hand as she loses her shoe on the catwalk

It wouldn't be fashion month without a mishap taking place on the catwalk.

At last night's Anna Sui show at New York fashion week, Gigi Hadid became this season's first victim of the fashion show accident. As she closed the show wearing the final look of the collection, the older Hadid sister appeared to have lost the glittery black peep toe heel which should have been on her right foot. Ever the consummate professional, Hadid gamely limped her way through the walk.

But when it came to coming back out for the finale, Gigi had found a shoulder to lean on thanks to little sister Bella who had, luckily, also been one of the show's star faces. Gigi draped her arm around Bella's shoulder to steady herself.

For the show's attendees, most of whom would have been on day four or five of watching shows, the heartwarming micro-moment of sisterly affection proved to be a happy distraction from the usually perfect parade of model walks which usually characterise a fashion show.

The model mishap has become a recurrent motif on the catwalks, and while it's unlikely that any of them would  intentionally trip or lose their shoe, it has become a way for models to stand out. Last september, Bella Hadid had her own catwalk drama when she lost her footing on the catwalk at Michael Kors.

In 2013, there was mayhem at the Nina Ricci show at Paris fashion week when British model Holly May Saker nonchalantly pushed a topless protester out of the way

"I punched her – I didn’t mean to but she grabbed my arm and I just wanted to get her off me," Saker said at the time. "My Scouseness came out a bit but I wish it had come out a bit more. Thinking about it now I wish I’d pushed them both off the stage because they ruined my favourite show."

And the most famous catwalk fall of all time? When Naomi Campbell teetered on her Vivienne Westwood Super Elevated Gillie platform's at the designer's 1993 show.

Fast forward 24 years and the Hadid sisters are giving her a run for her money as the queens of styling it out.
