Leaked 911 call linked to former judge accused of wife's murder: 'He said he stabbed her and she's dead'
A former judge who spent nine months in prison for violently beating his wife, is now a suspect in her murder, after she was found stabbed to death.
Lance Mason was fleeing the scene of the crime when he crashed his SUV into a police car, according to documents filed in a Cleveland, Ohio, court.
Officials said that he was likely to be charged over Aisha Fraser's murder.
In a call to police made after the stabbing, a woman who identifies herself as Mason's sister described how the ex-judge was covered in blood and pacing inside his house.
"He stabbed her and he said she's dead," Lynn Mason told a dispatcher.
The couple's two young daughters can be heard screaming in the full version of the tape, NBC News reported.
Mason has been charged with felonious assault in relation to the car crash in Shaker Heights, a suburb in Cleveland. A police officer was injured the crash, as was Mason, who investigators said would likely have charges brought against him in connection with Fraser's death.
The court documents also suggested the former judge attempted to flee from the scene of the crash but was taken into custody, where he remains.
Mason pleaded guilty to felonious assault and domestic violence in 2014, after it emerged that he had punched Fraser around 20 times after an argument.
A judge at the time of his arrest, he repeatedly slammed her into the dashboard, arm rest and passenger window of a car and bit her face, while their two young daughters sat in the car.
Fraser's injuries were so severe that she required reconstructive facial surgery after the assault.
Authorities said that the couple were separated at the time.
The Ohio Supreme Court indefinitely suspended Mason's law license last year, but once the former judge was released from prison he was hired by Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson.
Mason, who previously served in Ohio's state legislature, worked in Cleveland city's minority business development.
Mr Jackson said that he had fired Mason after he was taken into custody, but he defended his decision to hire the former judge.
Fraser worked as a teacher in Shaker Heights Schools for 16 years and most recently taught at Woodbury Elementary School. Colleagues from the Shaker Heights Teachers' Association have set up a fundraising website for Fraser's daughters.
Shaker Heights Superintendent Stephen Wilkins described Fraser as a devoted mother and a committed teacher.
