LCS announces new school day hours for 2024-2025 academic year

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — The Lynchburg City Schools says school day hours will look different for the 2024-2025 school year.

In recent years, the school district has faced several transportation challenges. The district says to operate its elementary bus routes effectively with its current system it would need 100 bus drivers. Currently, they only have about 65 drivers.

As a result, the district says it has struggled to maintain consistent pick-up and drop-off times. This has led to students arriving up to 30 minutes late each day.

Starting in the fall, school hours will change to the following:

  • All high and middle schools: 7:25 a.m. – 2:25 p.m.

  • Elementary (Group 1): 8:10 a.m. – 3:10 p.m. – W. M. Bass, Bedford Hills, Heritage Elementary, Linkhorne Elementary, Perrymont, and R. S. Payne

  • Elementary (Group 2): 8:40 a.m. – 3:40 p.m. – Dearington, Hutcherson, Paul Munro, Sandusky Elementary, Sheffield, and T. C. Miller
