Lawrence Township trustees declare three properties to be nuisances

Lawrence Township trustees

Monday meeting

KEY ACTION: Declared three properties to be nuisances.

DISCUSSION: The cleanup of property located at 7762 Arthur Ave. NW has been turned over to the township trustees via a Stark County Common Pleas Court ruling. Stark County Prosecutor Kyle Stone had filed the lawsuit because the property owner was not complying with health’s orders to dispose of bags of solid waste and to provide rabies vaccination records for all indoor and outdoor cats. Judge Natalie Haupt’s ordered the property owner in December 2023 to comply within 30 days. Since he did not, enforcement now falls on the township. Trustees agreed to spend up to $3,000 to get the bags of solid waste removed and place a lien on the property. Trustees declared the property a nuisance so a dilapidated swimming pool can be removed.

Trustees also declared 10481 Mapleview St. NW and 11860 Orrville St. NW nuisances for debris on the properties.

OTHER ACTION:

  • At their April 1 meeting, trustees agreed to rezone about one acre of land on the southwest corner of Orrville Street NW and Manchester Avenue NW from B1 (neighborhood business) to B3 (community business) for a proposed gas station and convenience store.

  • Approved an amendment to the joint staffing and fire services agreement between the Lawrence Township and Canal Fulton Fire Departments that would allow for joint purchases of larger equipment. Currently, each department buys its own equipment, which sometimes results in unnecessary duplication.

UP NEXT: Meets at 5:30 p.m. May 6 at the township administration building. Trustees’ meetings may be viewed in real time by clicking on a link on the township’s website.
