Law enforcement taking part in boat drills along Tennessee River in Guntersville

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — To enhance boating incident response time, the Coast Guard and other law enforcement agencies are conducting boating drills along the Tennessee River on Thursday.

National Safe Boating Week continues with boat drills with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

Starting at 9 a.m., the Coast Guard, along with state and local officials, are conducting a wide range of drills from boat tactics to emergency response procedures.

The drills include multiple responder boats operating near a tow with hopper barges on the Tennessee River from mile marker 359 to 366 near the Guntersville City Harbor.

The agencies participating are:

  • Alabama Law Enforcement (Marine Patrol Division)

  • Guntersville Police

  • Guntersville Rescue Squad

  • Guntersville Fire Department

  • Decatur Police

  • Florence Police

  • Marshall County Sheriff’s Office

  • Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office

  • Marshall County Emergency Management Agency

  • Morgan County Emergency Management Agency

The drill will conclude around noon on Thursday.
