One in custody, one injured after shots fired at Altavista home

UPDATE: 6:26 P.M. ALTAVISTA, Va. (WFXR)– The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office says one person was shot and another taken into custody after a shooting in Altavista.

Just before noon on March 17, the Sheriff’s Office says they responded to a call about gunshots being fired into a residence on Woodruff Drive. Deputies found a man with a gunshot wound in his arm; he was taken to the emergency room and is reportedly in stable condition.

Virginia State Police report four fatal crashes over the weekend

The Criminal Investigations Division found several rounds of ammunition at the scene and arrested 45-year-old Desha O’Brian Callands from Altavista. He was charged with Malicious wounding, Shooting into an occupied dwelling, and Use of a firearm while in the commission of a felony.

State Police and Altavista Police assisted.


ALTAVISTA, Va. (WFXR) — The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office is on scene, at the intersection of Woodruff Drive and Leewood Road in Altavista.

WFXR’s Chief Photographer is at the scene and says crime scene tape was stretched around the intersection and the Campbell County Crime Scene Unit is on scene.

A supervisor tells us that there is no danger to the public.
