1 dead, 1 injured in Blackman Township shooting

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)–UPDATE: Blackman-Leoni Township Public Safety Director Scott J. Grajewsk says officers responded to the 1400 block of Longfellow Ave. on reports of a shooting. On arrival, officers located a 27-year-old woman with injuries, he says.

She provided law enforcement with a description of a suspect, who was identified leaving the area in a white Mercedes Benz. The vehicle was located a “short distance away” from the Longfellow Ave. scene, he says.

A search for the suspect in the 1800 block of Wildwood Ave. resulted in a discovery of the suspect, he says.

Grajewski reports the suspect had an “apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.” The man was pronounced deceased at the scene, he says.

The woman is in a local hospital and listed in stable condition Grajewski says.

The shooting incident remains under investigation.

6 News has a crew on the scene and reports vehicles from both Blackman Township Public Safety and Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

6 News has learned there is a second crime scene nearby that may be associated with the Longfellow Ave. presence.
