LaVar Ball says LaMelo Ball won't play high school basketball

While Lonzo Ball gets ready for his first NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers, LaVar Ball is making some big baller moves of his own.

LaVar Ball is pulling high school junior LaMelo Ball from Chino Hills High School and will home school him over the next two years, per Los Angeles Times reporter Eric Sondheimer.

LaMelo Ball, 16, is the youngest of LaVar Ball’s three sons and is most known for dropping 92 points in a high school game last season.

“I’m going to make him the best basketball player ever,” LaVar Ball told the Times.

Anchored by the Ball brothers, Chino Hills had cemented itself as one of the state’s high school basketball powerhouses in recent years. Two seasons ago, the Lonzo Ball-led Huskies went 35-0.

ESPN reporter Ramona Shelburne reported that LaVar Ball’s decision to remove LaMelo Ball from high school was influenced by concerns over Chino Hills’ new coach, Dennis Latimore.

The Ball family patriarch told the Times that LaMelo Ball still intends to play at UCLA, though there are eligibility questions regarding the release of his own signature shoe earlier this year.

“It’s good for Melo,” LaVar told the Times. “Less distractions. He just needs to focus.”
