Laurinburg police arrest 5, seize more than a dozen firearms in drug raid

LAURINBURG, N.C. (WBTW) — Laurinburg police arrested five men and recovered more than a dozen firearms Tuesday as part of a drug investigation.

The arrests came after police received several complaints about illegal narcotics being sold at a home in the 1000 block of South Caledonia Road, police said. Three of the 13 guns seized in the raid had been reported stolen.

Follow is a list of those arrested and the charges against them:

  • Ziheem McLean of Laurinburg: possession with intent to sell or deliver; conspiracy to sell drugs; maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances; and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was ordered held with bond in the Scotland County Detention Center because he was on pretrial release for charges of assault on a female and driving on a revoked license. He also was served an outstanding warrant out of Wake County, North Carolina, on a charge of obtaining property by false pretense.

  • Shelton McLean of Laurinburg: possession with intent to sell or deliver; conspiracy to sell drugs; maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances; and possession of a firearm by felon. He was ordered held without bond in the detention center because he was on pretrial release for a charge of attempting to traffic cocaine. He also was served an outstanding criminal summons for charges of injury to personal property and assault on a Female.

  • Darius Tyson of Laurinburg: possession with intent to sell or deliver; conspiracy to sell drugs; maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances; and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was ordered held on a $250,000 secured bond at the detention center.

  • Shevonda Chavis of Laurinburg: possession with intent to sell or deliver; conspiracy to tell drugs; maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances; and possession of a firearm by a felon. Chavis was ordered held without bond at the detention center because of being on pretrial release for violating a court order.

  • William Owens of Raeford, North Carolina: possession with intent to sell or deliver: conspiracy to sell drugs; and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances. H was ordered held on a $200,000 secured bond at the detention center.
