Lauren Conrad Ends 2017 with Even Shorter Hair: See Her Blunt Bob

It’s been quite the busy year for Lauren Conrad from building her business to the birth of her son. It’s also the year she cut off all her hair and got a bob!

The 31-year-old former The Hills and Laguna Beach star inspired countless girls to grow out their hair and embrace the textured, SoCal wavs she famously wore for years, but now, five months after the birth of her first son Liam James with husband William Tell, Conrad ditched her signature hairstyle for a completely new look.

It all started a little over the month ago, after Conrad teased a major haircut to fans on Instagram when she shared a snap of a huge chunk of hair chopped off from her head. The star then bid farewell to her long ponytail with another photo captioned, “bye!” but didn’t give us the final reveal until a little bit later.

We caught up with the star a few days after she teased the cut at the launch of her new holiday collection for her LC Lauren Conrad line for Kohl’s, where Conrad revealed a chic shoulder-grazing lob we couldn’t help but ask her about.

“Yeah, I just cut it off. Honestly, it’s more of a time saver,” Conrad said. “I have to blow dry my hair while my son is napping and it doesn’t always last that long so less hair is less time. I don’t have time for a lot of hair.”

Because of her busy new mom lifestyle, Conrad turned to her longtime stylist Kristin Ess to come over to her house to do the chop. “Kristin is so sweet,” she said. “She’s been coming to my house for appointments just because it’s hard for me to get out and I just asked her to cut it all off.” Ess explained the cut on Instagram saying, “Last week we traveled 3 years back in time and returned to the chop that kicked off my bob & lob obsession on my original kween.”

But from the looks of it, Conrad’s lob wasn’t short enough.

Just about a month later, the star debuted an even shorter look at the opening of Kellogg’s N.Y.C. cafe Tuesday — a chin-length bob that appears to be one of her shortest ‘dos to date.

“The truth is she just doesn’t have time for longer hair right now. When shorter, her hair air dries with a very slight wave and she adds in a little pomade or styling cream and can go. If anything, hot tools-wise, just a little bend here or there with a flat iron to give it a little shape,” Ess, who did the cut, told PeopleStyle of the change.

Ess also confirmed the trim on Instagram saying, “Shorter & shorter & shorter. ?? this one… constantly raising the effortless-chic bar.”

She continued, telling us: “I honestly wish she would [go even shorter] because short hair would look amazing on her! Only time will tell but she’s pretty courageous that way so who knows.”

To create Conrad’s sleek look for yesterday’s event, Ess had the star air dry before she arrived and then got to styling right away.

“I sprayed Kristin Ess Thickening Spray on and dried that in — yes, you can put it on dry hair, just don’t start using hot tools until it’s dry,” Ess explained. “Then we added the tiniest bit of wave to the front using a beveled GHD flat iron around the face. Then I used Layrite Shine pomade to break up the waves but keep it shiny at the same time. [We] finished with a light layer of Kristin Ess Beach Wave Spray.”

The last time Conrad sported such a short haircut was 10 years ago, and when PEOPLE caught up with the star in 2014, it sounded like she planned on keeping her long hair forever.

“No, I’ll never go bob again,” Conrad said. “I haven’t let [Ess] cut my hair in, like, years,” she said. “Last time she cut my hair, I had dyed it pink with permanent dye and I dipped it and I gotten some too far up, so she had to cut it out. She held it up and was like, ‘Here?’ and I said, ‘Yeah, I think so.’ And she just chopped it.”
