Laufey has joined some pretty elite company — Jeff Beck, Bonnie Raitt, Steve Martin — as artists who have quickly sold out headlining shows for the Rochester International Jazz Festival.

There is one difference: At 24, she's a lot younger, a third the age of those performers. Beck, one of rock's elite guitarists, had 16 albums released by the time Laufey was born.

The June 26th festival performance of the Icelandic-Chinese singer sold out very quickly Friday morning. Tickets are already appearing at secondary market online sites, with prices ranging from over $100 to more than $600.

Laufey (pronouced lay-vay and the mother of Loki in Greek mythology) is successfully bringing jazz to a young audience largely unfamiliar with the musical lineage that precedes her — a tradition stretching from Sarah Vaughan to Nora Jones (who also has graced the Jazz Festival).

Laufey has more than 3 million TikTok followers and her 2024 tour is selling out venues in Europe and North America.
