The first residents are moving this month into a new apartment complex located near Austin's Mueller neighborhood just northeast of downtown.

The complex, called Solomon, has 369 apartment homes and was developed by Austin-based Endeavor Real Estate Group. The complex is adjacent to Mueller, which is the large development that transformed Austin's former airport into a 700-acre, mixed-use project with homes, offices, shops, restaurants, hotel rooms and entertainment options.

Endeavor is the powerhouse behind numerous high-profile residential, retail, office and mixed-use developments in Central Texas, including the Domain and Southpark Meadows. Endeavor also was chosen to redevelop the former Austin American-Statesman newspaper site at Congress Avenue and Barton Springs Road, just south of Lady Bird Lake.

The new upscale apartment complex at 1414 E. 51st St. "is perfect for residents seeking the close proximity to amenities of the urban Mueller neighborhood but without having to pay the high prices of downtown Austin for that sort of lifestyle," said Endeavor's Collin Aufhammer, vice president of development.

Solomon, to be managed by Greystar, has studio, one- and two-bedroom units ranging in size from about 500 square feet to 1,340 square feet.

Monthly rents for the studio apartments start in the $1,800s, one-bedroom units start in the $2,000s and two-bedrooms start in the $2,600s. There also are several income-restricted apartments for households earning 60% or less of the area's median family income.

Units will have smart home technology, large windows for natural light, custom closet shelving and oversized laundry rooms.

Other amenities will include a rooftop pool, outdoor grilling and dining areas, a cabana lounge, a fitness center, co-working spaces and a podcast studio.

The complex also will have on-site retail and will be home to a new location of Fresa’s restaurant, which will be coming soon.

With Mueller nearby, Solomon's residents will have plenty of dining, shopping, entertainment, recreational and other attractions. As of August 2023, Mueller had about 14,200 homeowners and renters. That number is expected to grow to about 16,300 once the development is completed.

Although Mueller is nearing the final stages of build-out, plenty of construction continues, with more housing, office, retail and parks underway.

In 2002, city leaders tapped Catellus Development Corp. to head up the airport's redevelopment after a national search.

In August, Greg Weaver, executive vice president of Catellus, said: "Some might assume Mueller’s development has concluded because so much is here now, but there are even more houses, more apartments, more condos, more parks, more offices, more retailers and more people to come. It’s a thrilling time to see this project through to the end, especially for those of us who have worked to build this community called Mueller for so long.”
