Last-minute leak offers new info on the iPhone 7 Plus’ dual camera

Just like any smartphone, the iPhone has front and a rear cameras. But unlike other devices, these cameras have names because that’s how Apple likes to do things. The front camera is called the FaceTime Camera, while the rear one is the iSight Camera. No one outside Apple really uses those names, especially iSight, when talking about the phones' cameras. But Apple will continue to brand these key iPhone components, and now we think we know what the iPhone 7 Plus’s rear camera will be called.

iSight Duo. Get it? Because the rear camera on the iPhone 7 Plus is a dual-lens camera.

Apple is yet to use iSight Duo in public, but a MacRumors reader discovered additional trademarks on top of the treasure trove found by lawyer Brian Conroy. iSight Duo is one of them, and it’s pretty self-explanatory.

A10 Fusion is also an interesting find, and both trademarks were discovered in Brunei. It’s not clear at this time what A10 Fusion might describe. MacRumors aptly points out that Apple uses a Fusion Drive inside the iMac and Mac Mini, a device that combines both SSD and HDD storage into a single volume. So what could A10 Fusion mean?

The same reader also found trademarks for Depth and Writeboard, which could be related to the dual camera and the Pencil stylus. At this point, there’s nothing to confirm exactly what these trademarks might cover, so we’ll just have to wait and see if any of the Apple execs who take the stage actually use any of them when introducing the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
