Jared Kneale: Canton firefighter/paramedic's death puts spotlight on firefighter mental health

The Canton Fire Department announced Kneale died Friday by suicide due to a post-traumatic stress related illness.

"Jared signaled to us his wishes to use his death to help bring awareness to firefighter mental health. We urge our fellow brothers and sisters to reach out to one another," said the announcement, made with the permission of his wife and children.

Kneale's memorial tribute says he "enjoyed riding his Harley, traveling, and watching the Cleveland Browns." He was described as a talented carpenter and mechanic with an insatiable sweet tooth which caused a love of M&M's and cookies-and-cream ice cream.

"He always loved trying and doing new things," it said. "Jared always loved being with his family and grandchildren along with his dogs Bear and Bane."
