Las Vegas police shoot, kill man after armed robbery

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas police shot and killed a man after he robbed a person with a knife outside of a retail store in the central valley, according to Metro police.

Police said on Wednesday at 7:41 p.m., they received a report that a man armed with a knife robbed a person outside of Target in the 4000 block of South Maryland Parkway near East Flamingo Road. When Metro police arrived, they located the armed suspect and gave him verbal commands to drop his weapon and comply but the suspect refused, police said.

“The suspect then charged at an officer causing an officer to discharge his duty weapon, striking the suspect,” Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Captain Joshua Martinez told 8 News Now. Officers were able to take the suspect into custody and provided him with medical attention. The suspect was later pronounced dead at the scene. All officers involved in the incident were unharmed, police said.

The manager of Target told 8 News Now that they planned to stay open during the investigation Wednesday night.

The identity of the officer involved will be released within 48 hours of the shooting. Further details will be provided by LVMPD within 72 hours.

As of 11 p.m. on Wednesday RTC of Southern Nevada reported that Flamingo Road remained closed in both directions between Maryland Parkway and Cambridge Street. Drivers were advised to use alternate routes.

The incident is the third officer-involved shooting in LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2024.
