Las Vegas police: Man threatened mass shooting at restaurant over wrong order

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man faces charges for allegedly threatening a mass shooting at a restaurant over his wrong order, though police suspect he may have inadvertently called the wrong business as his threats escalated, according to documents the 8 News Now Investigators obtained.

Joshua Shelton, 40, faces charges of stalking and making obscene, threatening or annoying phone calls, records said.

On March 27, police received a report of a man, later identified as Shelton, who allegedly made threats to “shoot up” The Summit at Eagle Crest, a restaurant within a northwest valley golf course.

An employee told police Shelton called the business 13 times over five hours, officers said, making threats in the process about a “wrong order.” Police suspect Shelton may have been calling the wrong business he intended.

According to police, Shelton allegedly made concerning statements including: “When I show up, all of the employees better drop to the floor,” “I’m going to come there and put someone to sleep” and other threats involving possible harm.

Employees became so concerned, they shut the doors and informed the dozen or so customers inside of the situation as they waited for police, documents said. The community HOA also sent an email to neighbors alerting the threat of violence.

In a prior incident, Shelton allegedly called police stating “he sharpens knives for a living and wanted [an officer]” to view them, documents said.

Shelton originally faced a terror charge, which led to a judge denying him bail, but prosecutors dropped that charge. Records show he entered a not-guilty plea on April 2 and was scheduled to have a bench trial on April 17. He remained at the Clark County Detention Center as of Thursday where he was held without bail.
