Las Vegas police K9 stabbed multiple times during barricade, fire

UPDATE: The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department posted to the platform “X” that K9 Enzo is felling better after Friday’s stabbing.

The department thanked the team that helped him saying “The whole team is putting in time to give him that TLC. Thanks again to all the skilled veterinarians who have been taking care of Enzo. Thanks to VCA Decatur and Veterinary Emergency + Critical Care.”

As of Sunday, Enzo is continuing to recover and has been reunited with his handler.

“Other than some minor maintenance on stitches and wound care, Enzo is in good spirits and getting lots of attention,” LVMPD said in a post on the platform “X.”


LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A Las Vegas Metro police K9 was seriously injured after responding to a barricade near the downtown Las Vegas area.

It happened shortly after 1 p.m. in the 1200 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard near Charleston Boulevard.

Police responded to a call of a suicidal man in that area. When officers arrived they found the man barricaded with a small fire in his apartment. SWAT, a K9 team, and negotiators were called in to help assist with the incident.

When SWAT arrived the man came out armed with a knife with apparent self-inflicted wounds, police said. The man then started approaching officers with the knife. Officers then used several “low lethal options” including K9 Enzo to take the man into custody. The K9 bit the man however then man began stabbing K9 Enzo multiple times. Officers continued to use “low lethal options” until they could take the man safely into custody, police said.

Las Vegas Metro police K9 was then airlifted to a local animal hospital where he went into surgery Friday afternoon, according to police. Enzo is expected to live and was listed in stable condition and will remain in the ICU overnight to continue receiving treatment. Enzo is a Belgian Malinois and almost three years old. He has been with LVMPD for approximately one year, police said.

The man, identified as 64-year-old Thurman Lowe, was also taken to a hospital where he also underwent surgery and is listed in critical but stable condition, according to a news release sent Friday night by police.
