Las Vegas police investigate ‘suspicious item’ in building, evacuating area

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas police said they are investigating after a ‘suspicious item’ was found in a building near the airport.

According to police, the item was found in a building in the 6600 block of Gilespie Street, near Sunset Road.

Police said they conducting evacuations of the immediate area. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department ARMOR Section is responding to the scene “out of an abundance of precaution,” police said.

The ARMOR Section is the All-Hazard Regional Multi-agency Operations and Response team for the LVMPD. They investigate chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive incidents.

Police ask that the public avoid the area due to a heavy police presence.

Road closures are expected near the intersection of Sunset Road and Gilespie Street.
