Las Vegas man who threatened mass attack at Golden Knights parade wanted to kill judge before fleeing hospital: prosecutors

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man accused of threatening a mass attack at last year’s Vegas Golden Knights victory parade allegedly said he wanted to kill people in court, including a judge, before running from a hospital last week, the 8 News Now Investigators have learned.

Anthony Zuccaro, 32, faces several charges, including making a threat regarding an act of terrorism, stemming from the 2023 gathering. Before last year’s parade, Metro police brought Zuccaro to a hospital, where he was then released and allegedly made additional threats, documents said.

In court Tuesday, Zuccaro was remanded into custody and ordered held without bail, records said.

On June 16, 2023, before the parade, Zuccaro reportedly called a support hotline where he “expressed suicidal [and] homicidal” thoughts, documents said. Zuccaro agreed to meet with Metro officers at a gas station near Russell Road and Jones Boulevard.

“Anthony was placed on a legal hold,” documents said. “While attempting to detain Anthony, he resisted officers and attempted to flee on his motorcycle but was eventually detained.” EMTs brought Zuccaro to a Las Vegas-area hospital for a mental health assessment, documents said. The hospital released him within two hours, officers said. Zuccaro then went back to the gas station to get his motorcycle, which was parked there, police said.

Shortly after, Zuccaro called a crisis hotline where he made other threatening statements, documents said, including a threat “against the Las Vegas Golden Knights Stanley Cup Parade.” According to documents the 8 News Now Investigators obtained, Zuccaro was “upset with officers after being detained” and over the fact “that he was taken to the hospital where they held him for an hour [and] did not help him [and] then told him to leave.”

Zuccaro allegedly then damaged several cars, including police vehicles, “by breaking the side mirrors and smashing their windows,” while on a ride toward Las Vegas Boulevard, documents said. At this point, the parade had not started.

Police then detained Zuccaro before the parade began. Zuccaro declined to answer detectives’ questions during his arrest.

Earlier this month, Zuccaro allegedly called a helpline, saying “something” would happen, that he wanted to kill his roommate and that he wanted to fight with police officers, documents said.

“When officers made contact with [him] over the phone, [he] denied calling [the help line], denied having a roommate and denied wanting to hurt himself,” documents said. “[He] then hung up on the officer.”

An address listed on Zuccaro’s license was confirmed to be an Airbnb, police said. Zuccaro “has not lived at the address for months,” documents said.

Last week while at a Las Vegas-area hospital, Zuccaro allegedly said “he wanted to sneak a firearm into the courtroom and harm the police officer involved in the case, the district attorney and the judge,” documents said. “[Zuccaro] also stated he would ‘blow up’ the city because he had nothing to lose, and that if he was sent back to jail he would kill himself using prescription drugs.”

Zuccaro then ran off and got into a car while a hospital behavioral specialist was expanding the legal hold process to him, documents said. Henderson police were unable to locate Zuccaro and listed him as a missing person, documents said.

It was unclear what led to Zuccaro’s in-custody transfer Tuesday.

A trial in the terrorism case was scheduled to begin May 20.
