Las Vegas man reportedly kills neighbor after he exposes genitals: ‘I am going to murder you’

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man shot and killed his neighbor after the victim allegedly exposed his genitals to a family in a heated incident Monday night, according to documents the 8 News Now Investigators obtained.

Eddi Moreno Jr., 32, faces a murder charge in the death of Joe Moreno, 47, of Las Vegas. Moreno died due to multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death homicide, according to the Clark County Coroner’s office.

During a news conference Monday night, LVMPD Lt. Jason Johannson indicated the men were neighbors. In the documents the 8 News Now Investigators obtained Tuesday, Eddi Moreno said he had never met Joe Moreno. Police documents refer to Eddi Moreno as “Eddie Moreno,” though his name is listed as Eddi Moreno in court and jail records.

According to records, the two parties live next door to each other.

Around 7 p.m. on Monday, May 13, a person called 911 saying a neighbor was “causing a disturbance and grabbing their genitalia” on Starline Meadow Place near Lake Mead Boulevard and Anasazi Drive, according to documents.

Joe Moreno was located inured in his driveway, documents said. Paramedics brought him to the hospital where a doctor pronounced him deceased. Officers located five cartridges casings in the area.

A witness told police that earlier in the day, she and Joe Moreno had a fight, which left him “locked out” of the home, documents said. Another witness told police she and Eddi Moreno returned to their home, finding Joe Moreno “pacing back and forth” outside.

“[The witness] said they could not understand what Joe was saying but said he appeared to be upset and yelling at them as they pulled into the driveway,” documents said. Before getting out of the car, Eddi Moreno allegedly retrieved a gun that was in a backpack.

Before the shooting, Joe Moreno allegedly accused Eddi Moreno of breaking into his home, documents said.

“During the argument, Joe stood on a large boulder… and pulled his penis and scrotum out and began thrusting towards Eddie [sic] and [the witness] resulting in Eddie [sic] shooting Joe,” documents said “[Joe Moreno] begins making threats and Eddie [sic] tells his wife to grab his gun and call 911. Eddie [sic] advised [Joe] not to come towards him and warns [Joe] that he would shoot. The male came towards Eddie [sic] while reaching in his pants and Eddie [sic] shot [Joe],” documents said.

A doorbell camera captured the incident, which recorded the following conversation, according to detectives:

Eddi Moreno: “You’re going to get [expletive] up right here.”

Joe Moreno: “[Goddamn], you’re going to kill me.”

Eddi Moreno: “I don’t give a [expletive], I am going to murder you, come right here. Imma murder you blood.”

Joe Moreno: “Who you going to murder?”

Eddi Moreno: “You.”

A minute later, Eddi Moreno reportedly said, “That’s what he gets. He’s not going to do that in front of my kids. Are you crazy?” documents said.

“There was just a ton of cops on both sides of the street from one end to the other,” a neighbor who asked not to be identified told 8 News Now. “Feel pretty safe playing out in the streets usually. They’re normally out front just playing, all day.”

Eddi Moreno told police Joe Moreno accused of him “breaking into his house,” documents said.

Eddi Moreno told police he believed Joe Moreno was reaching into his shorts, possibly to grab a weapon, though no weapon was located and Joe Moreno never made a threat about having a weapon, police noted.

Eddi Moreno also allegedly told police he had never seen Joe Moreno before the shooting, but police said Joe Moreno “called Eddie’s [sic] name specifically” after the shooting, documents said.

During Eddi Moreno’s first court appearance, a judge denied setting bail due to the murder charge. He was due to return to court May 16.
