Las Vegas-area woman recorded on video shooting pastor will not face death penalty

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The woman recorded on video shooting and killing a father in front of his wife and children will not face the death penalty should a jury convict her of murder.

Joe Junio, 36, faces charges of murder with the use of a deadly weapon, attempted murder, child abuse and other charges stemming from the Dec. 29, 2023, killing of 46-year-old Nick Davi.

Junio is accused of shooting Davi amid ongoing complaints to their homeowners’ association, according to documents the 8 News Now Investigators reviewed. Junio also allegedly shot Davi’s wife, Sarah Davi.

During her arraignment Thursday, Junio pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors said a death review committee declined to pursue the death penalty.

In addition to criminal charges, Junio faces a wrongful death lawsuit Sarah Davi filed in January. In addition to Junio, the lawsuit lists the person who owned the firearm used to shoot the couple as a party, though the exact owner of the weapon was unknown at the time of the lawsuit’s filing.

Nick Davi was a pastor at Grace Point Church in North Las Vegas. He moved to North Las Vegas in 2005 after leaving the South after Hurricane Katrina, the lawsuit said.

Junio remained in custody at the Clark County Detention Center where she was held without bail. A judge was scheduled to set a trial date on March 26.
