LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The aunt of two toddlers killed in a DUI crash, which left one of her nieces decapitated, could serve two years in prison as part of a plea deal.

North Las Vegas police said speeding and impairment caused Kaleah Manning to lose control of a mini-van on Dec. 11, 2022. Police said Manning sideswiped trees, hit a light pole and a wall, and then crashed into a palm tree head-on. Her sister, Raenysa Washington, was a passenger in the car with her children, police said.

Neither child was in a child restraint as required by Nevada law, police said at the time of the crash. Police said Manning’s blood alcohol level was measured at 0.191, more than twice the legal limit in Nevada.

Rose Wilmer, 2, was decapitated in the crash and her sister, Taylor Wilmer, 3, died at the hospital.

Manning pleaded guilty earlier this year to two counts of DUI resulting in death, records said. Washington pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse.

As part of the deal, a judge could sentence Manning to 2-40 years in prison. Nevada law stipulates sentences for DUI resulting in death can be anywhere from two to 20 years. The time is doubled for Manning due to the two counts, documents indicated, but a judge could sentence her to serve the terms concurrently.

Washington faces anywhere from two to 12 years in prison on the child abuse charges, documents said.

The attorneys representing the initially said Manning denied the allegations, despite police body camera footage of the crash scene and her behind the wheel. The lawyers had cited mechanical concerns with the car’s power steering, the car that police documents show was taken from a “friend” of Manning the night of the crash.

Both women are scheduled to be sentenced in June. Both were previously released on bond.
