Las Vegas air traffic down 1.5 percent in October

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Airport officials in Las Vegas say McCarran International Airport handled 1.5 percent fewer passengers in October than a year earlier.

Data released Friday shows about 3.7 million people flew in and out of the airport last month. That's 60,000 fewer than in October 2011.

Total airport traffic remained slightly ahead of last year. McCarran International served about 35 million passengers during the first ten months of the year.

Domestic traffic was down by 2 percent compared with last year, while the number of passengers flying international increased by 7 percent. Domestic carriers make up about 90 percent of traffic.

Of the top five airlines serving the airport, only Southwest and American saw an increase in passengers. Southwest is the airport's largest carrier.

McCarran is the seventh-busiest airport in the country.
