Larimer County selects 17 winners in Horsetooth Reservoir, Carter Lake boat slip lottery

Seventeen people were marina boat slip winners in the Larimer County Department of Natural Resources' first lottery for leftover openings at popular Horsetooth Reservoir and Carter Lake.

The available slips for the lottery were determined by the remaining spaces available after returning customers in good standing were given first right of refusal. The department selected winners through a random number generator in late April.

The lottery was open statewide in March. Fourteen of the 17 winners reside in Larimer County, according to a news release.

Of the 17 winners, 14 were selected for Carter Lake out of 100 applicants and three for Horsetooth Reservoir out of 274 applicants.

Being chosen in the lottery doesn't guarantee boaters a slip or mooring but does guarantee them "a chance to be interviewed and vetted for a rental contract based on factors such as good standing with the marina and their boat size matching available slips or moorings for rent," according to the release.

Those who weren't selected in the lottery could be considered for contracts if more spots open up this season, but their applications will not carry over into the 2025 lottery, which will be open January through February, with selections made in March.
