Sixteen children and teens were taken to local hospitals after a chemical issue at a swim club in Troy Monday morning.

According to Troy Assistant Fire Chief Wade Dexter, emergency crews were dispatched to the Dolphin Swim Club on State Route 718 after reports of multiple children having trouble breathing and not feeling well during swim lessons.

Miami County dispatchers told News Center 7 that they received reports of issues with chemicals in the water.

The 16 juveniles, ages 8-18, were taken to be evaluated at area hospitals. So far, none have been admitted, according to Dexter.

A Miami County hazmat team was called to the pool to test the water and try to determine a cause.

“They’re just testing the water and the chemicals that are used to treat the water,” Dexter said.
