Large boulder closes portion of roadway in Washington County, Virginia

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is asking motorists to be alert in the Brumley Gap Road/John Douglas Wayside area of Washington County due to a large boulder blocking the road.

As of 9:25 a.m., the right lane on Route 19 northbound is closed, according to VDOT’s 511 map. The left northbound lane is open to traffic.

Heavy rain attributed to the 10-foot by 10-foot by 25-foot boulder coming loose, VDOT stated.

Motorists are asked to be alert to signs and message boards in the area while crews work to remove debris.
