LAPD Has “No Suspects” In Donald Trump’s Walk Of Fame Star Destruction

Nearly three hours after a vandal almost completely smashed Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this morning, Los Angeles police have “no suspects.” Earlier Wednesday, a man identifying himself as Jamie Otis attacked the nearly decade-old star for the former Apprentice host on Hollywood Boulevard with a pickax and sledgehammer.

Officer Sal Ramirez informed Deadline today that the LAPD is conducting “an ongoing investigation” of the vandalism. Having arrived nearly half an hour after Otis started destroying the Trump star, officers are still on the scene. The department is also asking for the public’s help:

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce runs the Walk of Fame program, and the 2,500-plus stars are maintained by the Hollywood Historic Trust. Neither has responded to request for comment on today’s incident. While the most impactful, to put it mildly, Wednesday’s attack is far from the first time the GOP nominee’s star has been defaced since he announced his bid for the White House last year.

Otis told Deadline that he wanted to remove the star to auction it off on Election Day to raise money for the 11 women who have come forward to say Trump sexually assaulted them over the decades. Despite a solid effort and multiple blows to the embedded, five-pointed terrazzo and brass star, Otis — who was dressed as a city construction worker — was not able to get it out of the ground as he’d hoped. With less than a dozen onlookers in the vicinity, Otis left the location near the Dolby Theatre at about 5:55 AM.
