Brazil is one of four countries in South America where Spanish is not the main language.

The country’s main language is Brazilian Portuguese.

The language was first introduced in Brazil in the 16th Century when it was a colony of Portugal.

Since then, the Portuguese language has changed throughout time.

Although both countries speak Portuguese, they differ in pronunciation, vocabulary and meanings of words.

The other countries in South America where Spanish is not the main language is: Guyana (English), Suriname (Dutch), and French Guiana (French).
