VSP says MD man killed in Route 39 crash, 4 passengers hospitalized

UPDATE: 2:41 P.M. BATH COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police have released the identity of the person killed in the deadly single-vehicle crash that occurred on Route 39 in Bath County on March 4.

VSP says that around 6:35 a.m. on Monday, 51-year-old Jose Rubi Albertico Lemus-Lemus of Beltsville, Maryland, and four passengers were traveling west in a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 on Route 39 when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road.

Mr. Lemus was pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment. There is no information on their current condition.

Police say the investigation is ongoing; however, Mr. Lemus was wearing his seatbelt. It is believed that speed was a factor in the crash.



UPDATE: 10:18 A.M. BATH COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia State Police said they are working to learn what led to a deadly crash on Monday morning in Bath County.

Details remain limited; however, state police said three passengers were in the vehicle and one person died.

VSP is working to get a translator to the hospital to learn what happened.

The name of the victim has not been released.

BATH COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — All east and west lanes are shut down on VA-39, in Bath County, following a vehicle crash on Monday morning.

Details are limited; however, the Virginia Department of Transportation says the crash is on Mountain Valley Road, near Wild Cat School Road.

Drivers traveling in this area can expect delays and are encouraged to find a different route. At this time, it is unknown when the road will open.
