Lane restrictions begin on I-83 bridge in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting motorists of road work planned this week on the Interstate 83 bridge in Harrisburg.

The John Harris Memorial Bridge, which spans the Susquehanna River between Dauphin and Cumberland Counties will be inspected this week.

There will be daytime lane and shoulder restrictions on the northbound and southbound sides of the interstate while the work is being performed.

Weather permitting, the work is scheduled to take between Monday, April 22, and Friday, April 26.

The northbound I-83 right lane will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

The southbound right shoulder will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

PennDOT says three travel lanes in each direction and all on and off-ramps will remain open throughout the week.

Additional lane and shoulder closures will be scheduled later in April and in May.

Driver should stay alert, obey work zone signs, and use caution when driving through work zones.
