A lane of College Avenue will close for Trilby intersection work this week: What to expect

Road construction at the College Avenue and Trilby Road intersection will result in a lane reduction starting Monday, May 13.

The city is in the first phase of the $12 million rebuild of the intersection to improve safety and traffic flow. The intersection topped the city's most dangerous intersections list in 2022.

As part of the construction, northbound College Avenue will be reduced to one lane from Triangle Drive north to Trilby Road from 8:30 a.m. Monday, May 13, to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, according to a city news release.

Those traveling north on College Avenue should expect delays during peak traffic hours on those dates. Alternate routes are encouraged.

Access to nearby residences and businesses will be maintained via detour routes.

Crews will typically work on the project from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays.

The city is rebuilding the intersection in phases. Construction on the first phase began April 1 and will last until Aug. 1.

The second phase involves utilities and underground work and is slated to begin in June, concurrent with the first phase, the city said. This phase will have significant traffic impacts and is expected to last four to five months.

The third and final construction phase involves surface and streetscape reconstruction and will closely follow the underground work. It's also expected to last four to five months and will cause continued traffic impacts.

Completion of the project is expected in early 2025, depending on weather.
