Lancaster election tied after recount, will go to runoff

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An election in the village of Lancaster finished in a tie after a recount of ballots on Monday, and will go to a runoff.

David Santoro and William C. Schroeder, who are running for village trustee, each finished with 248 votes. The special election was held on March 19, and the votes were recounted on Monday. There were also 32 write-in votes for Joseph Lista.

Due to the tie, there will be a runoff on April 9 between Santoro and Schroeder. The election will only include those two names and write-in votes will not be allowed. The winner will win a one-year term.

Votes can be cast from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Lancaster Municipal Village on Broadway.
