The Aventador SVJ Roadster has debuted at the Geneva auto show, and it's exactly what we expected.
It shares the SVJ coupe's 759-hp engine and 217-mph top speed.
The SVJ Roadster will start at over $570,000 when it goes on sale this summer.
It's pretty much a given that when a new Lamborghini coupe comes out, a droptop model is sure to follow. This has yet again been proven true with the Aventador SVJ Roadster, which has just debuted at the Geneva auto show. Like the name says, this is an Aventador SVJ coupe with the roof lopped off-and no other changes made.
That means an absurd-looking active aerodynamics package and a mid-mounted naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V-12 producing 759 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque. Lamborghini says the Roadster will hit 62 mph in 2.9 seconds, just a tenth slower than its time for the coupe, while the Roadster's top speed is the same 217 mph as the hardtop's. (No word on how close the Roadster will get to the coupe's record-smashing Nürburgring time.) The Roadster is just a claimed 110 pounds heavier than the coupe, likely due to necessary strengthening measures. Like on the standard Aventador Roadster, the SVJ's roof consists of two removable carbon-fiber panels that stow inside the front cargo area, and the Roadster also gets an electronically retractable rear window.
The SVJ Roadster that is being shown in Geneva is finished in a spectacular new color. It's a matte brown called Bronzo Zenas, and it's complemented by accents in Bianco Phanes (white) that emphasizes the Aventador's fighter-jet-like lines. The interior is a pure white, one of nearly 350 colors offered through Lambo's Ad Personam customization program.
Only 800 SVJ Roadsters will be sold, 100 fewer than the coupe's total, and deliveries will begin this summer. What price, exclusivity and rooflessness? The SVJ Roadster starts at over $570,000, about $50,000 more than the coupe.
