Lamar man to stand trial on domestic assault charges
Apr. 19—LAMAR, Mo. — A judge has ordered a Lamar man bound over for trial on felony domestic assault charges.
Judge Brandon Fisher decided at the conclusion of a preliminary hearing Friday in Barton County Circuit Court that Andy R. Vangilder, 44, should stand trial on felony counts of first-degree domestic assault, first-degree child endangerment and resisting arrest. The defendant also faces misdemeanor charges of assault and driving while intoxicated in the case.
Vangilder was arrested on the charges following a two-vehicle crash Nov. 25 at 10th and Oak streets in Lamar.
A probable-cause affidavit states that the defendant deliberately struck a vehicle a woman was driving while he had a 10-year-old child in his own vehicle, and then he left the scene of the crash. The collision caused the woman's vehicle to hit a utility pole, breaking the pole in half.
Police caught up to the suspect a short time later but he resisted arrest by purportedly "shoulder-checking" a female officer and fleeing again in his car. Later located at his residence in Lamar, the defendant again failed to comply with orders, forcing an officer to deploy a stun gun to get him under arrest, the affidavit alleges.
