Lakeview’s Broadway United Methodist Church hit by burglar

CHICAGO — A church in the city’s north side Lakeview neighborhood was broken into and burglarized early Wednesday morning, police said.

Broken glass remained on the ground at 7:30 a.m. outside the Broadway United Methodist Church, located at 3338 North Broadway Street, about three hours after someone broke the front door glass.

The church’s pastor, Alka Lyall, told the Chicago Sun-Times that two entrance windows and an office window were broken.

Police said in a statement that whoever broke in took some items from the office and then got away in an orange SUV.

Authorities had no one in custody in connection with the crime as of midday with detectives from Area Three continuing their investigation.

While that’s low enough to have triggered quickening adoption of electric vehicles, even the cheapest lithium-ion chemistries are still too expensive to put a big battery in every home to protect against blackouts. “When produced at the same scale, sodium-ion should be about half of where lithium-iron-phosphate is in terms of cost to produce because the raw materials are a hundred times cheaper,” Darren Tan, co-founder and CEO of Unigrid, told TechCrunch. Tan’s startup thinks it has solved those problems by using a new chemistry based on sodium-chromium-oxide in one half of the battery and tin in the other (though Tan emphasizes the company can substitute other materials on either side).
