Lakeland paralegal program grads to hold panel discussion

Mar. 24—Lakeland Community College is inviting all students and community members to attend a free paralegal panel discussion from 6 to 8 p.m. March 25 at the T-Building, Room T-137, on the school's campus at 7700 Clocktower Drive in Kirtland.

The event includes a meet-and-greet with graduates of the school's Paralegal Program ready to discuss paths in the profession, with panelists sharing experiences from their classes and professional journeys, career paths, and work-life balances in the field.

The event is hosted by Lakeland's Paralegal Association, a student-led club made up of current students in the program.

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, "strong job prospects" in the field are expected to continue over the next decade.

"This (panel discussion) offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from paralegal alumni who are thriving in their careers," said Program Coordinator Wendy Smither. "By inviting our graduates, attendees get a first-hand look at the pathway from education to the workforce.

"Our faculty will also be on hand to discuss the academic pathways Lakeland provides to launch successful paralegal careers through our degree and certificate programs," she added, noting the Paralegal Program is approved by the American Bar Association.

Additionally, graduates of the college's program are "prepared to work in the field of law and a wide range of other business and/or corporate settings, including finance, health care, human resources, real estate, and technology."
