Lake Worth names Duncanville assistant as head football coach, athletic director

Lake Worth ISD’s board of trustees approved the hire of Bull Frogs’ next head football coach and athletic director on Monday: Duncanville offensive coordinator Todd Peterman.

With the Panthers, Peterman’s offense dominated in Texas high school football’s largest classification. Duncanville, in 2024, won it’s second consecutive state championship and averaged a whopping 51 points per game.

Matt Stepp of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football was the first to report the news, and Lake Worth ISD confirmed the report to the Star-Telegram.

Peterman is taking over coaching duties from Jerry Prieto, who accepted a head coaching job at Dayton.

Peterman spent nearly a decade at DeSoto, where he developed a reputation as one of the best football coaches in North Texas. He spent six years as an assistant and three as a head coach.

Lake Worth had a 6-5 record in 2024, finishing fourth in district 6-4A D1 and making a playoff appearance. The Bullfrgos lost in the bi-district round to China Spring.

The hiring of Peterman provides the Bullfrogs a fresh start and could propel Lake Worth back to prominence. In a press release, Lake Worth ISD communications said Peterman has a “proven track record.”

Peterman’s accomplishments speak for themselves, and he has seen success as a head coach on top of his run with Duncanville as an assistant. In 2016, Peterman led DeSoto to its first state championship.

It was the beginning of a stretch of greatness from the DeSoto Eagles, sparking a run that would create a Texas football powerhouse.

To cap the 2024 season, DeSoto won back-to-back Class 6A D2 state championships and defeated district rival Duncanville en route to a perfect season.

The Bullfrogs will face different competition following the UIL realignment. District rivals include Alvarado, Carrollton Ranchview, Kennedale, River Oaks Castleberry and Waxahachie Life.
