Lake of the Woods named among top ice fishing destinations in the U.S.

Jan. 10—BAUDETTE, Minn. — Lake of the Woods in northwest Minnesota has been named among the top nine ice fishing destinations in the U.S. by FishingBooker, an online platform for booking fishing trips.

Here's what FishingBooker had to say about Lake of the Woods and its ranking among the country's top ice fishing destinations:

"Only topped by the Great Lakes, Lake of the Woods is a major player and a proud owner of more than 300,000 acres of water in the United States. Massive and impressive, the lake is the ultimate ice fishing playground. Come winter, the lake becomes dotted with shanties and passionate (anglers). Many opt for overnight camping and sleepless nights (in) skid houses, too.

"All that is to try their luck at reeling in the mighty three — walleye, northern pike and sauger. While pike and sauger receive attention, walleye always steal the spotlight. Gear up because the northwest part of Minnesota guarantees a one-of-a-kind ice fishing adventure."

Lake of the Woods was the only destination in Minnesota or North Dakota to make this year's list.

In 2020, FishingBooker named Devils Lake and Upper Red Lake

among its top ice fishing destinations.

Other lakes named to this year's list were as follows:

* Lake of the Woods, Oregon.

* Bonaparte Lake, Washington.

* Henry's Lake, Idaho.

* Sheridan Lake, South Dakota.

* Boom Lake, Wisconsin.

* Shores and Islands, Ohio.

* Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire.

* Moosehead Lake, Maine.
