Lake Oswego parents alerted to SAT prep scam

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — As if the SAT wasn’t stressful enough for students, officials in Lake Oswego said scammers are looking to bilk money and personal information from parents and test takers.

Parents in Lake Oswego were alerted to the possible scam, something the Better Business Bureau has been following for a while.

The way it works is someone claiming to be from the College Board (or another educational organization) calls to confirm your address in order to send SAT prep materials.

But the BBB has the same advice they have for many potential scams-by-phone: Always be wary of unsolicted callers, especially ones who want money and personal information.

If you get a call like this, look up the business at BBB.org and check the BBB Scam Tracker to see if anyone else has reported this.

And remember: The College Board will never ask for bank or credit card information over the phone or by email.
